As a woman, you’re more than likely familiar with premenstrual syndrome, better known as PMS. But with premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD), the typical symptoms of PMS can be so extreme that they make work, relationships, or socializing a difficult experience.
PMDD can occur in as many as 10% of women who menstruate. Women with a family or personal history of depression are at a greater risk of developing this medical illness.
The good news is that with proper treatment, symptoms of PMDD may be reduced. No one enjoys feeling bad. If you or your primary care doctor believe that you may be suffering from PMDD, being diagnosed and treated by an experienced psychiatrist can help.
